PEDAGOGY: This program is designed to teach regression without most of the analytic overhead of a typical econometrics or statistics class. Instead of giving students data and asking them to run regressions, it "inverts" the problem of teaching regression by asking students to create datasets to achieve a given outcome, like a statistically significant regression line. By clicking on an (x,y) graph to create data points, students gain an intuitive "feel" for the relationship between data and regression. This pedagogy is experimental, and we welcome any suggestions or exercises that we could include in the program. For now, you can email Gray Curtis curtisg@alum.mit.edu
HISTORY: This program was originally written in Hypercard by Luke Froeb in 1988 to teach Justice Dept. attorneys enough about regression to allow them to cross-examine rival experts. Keyuan Jiang kjiang@pnw.edu then ported it over to Visual Basic and dramatically improved its look and feel. Taylor Jones tjonesster@gmail.com and Gray Curtis made it into a web app, and all four of us continue to update it.
